My work is about the human condition and my own humanity on every level and my work is also about the act of making drawing, painting, sculpture, or the action taken in the grip of all that is human. Art is a response to the lonely dilemma of being a human spirit on this planet and, at the same time, art has its own qualities, its finesse and beauty and inventive potential as a medium. Each drawing and painting that I make is a resolution of the dilemma of separation from self and others, from self and world, from self and medium. In making art I symbolically represent my Self and the elemental, human, Universal Self in the ongoing action of becoming integrated with God, with Nature, with my own and others complex consciousness in the world: as an observer, as a player, as an actor regarding the world in its essence, as a person subject to the whiplash of feelings that come from within to wrench us apart, as a part of the ongoing evolution of the universe, I play a part, I am an artist. As a human being I am an artist and I am also an expression of all that I call Nature and God and humankind. In this sense then I believe that my work is spiritual.
