Artist Statement

Christina Mazzalupo's work aims to create a female based, yet universal language for emotion, in order to comprehend and reveal it. Through the use of symbols, images, words, mark making, and familiarity, she creates a visual expression of the elusive thoughts and emotions that we as humans experience. The work stresses the importance of intimacy, and in most cases, it offers the viewer a physically intimate moment while contemplating it. Through its methods and themes, the work joins in the collective movement that strives to establish a code of symbols for the artwork of women.
